Role: Senior In-House Counsel – Legal Risk & Compliance
Reporting to: General Counsel
Contract duration: 12 Month Fixed-Term Maternity Leave Cover – 4-day week
The Role
This in-house legal role in William Fry will involve a broad range of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
- Commercial contract reviews (of supplier contracts with William Fry) as part of centralised supplier contracting process.
- Review and negotiation of outside counsel guidelines, panel terms, letters of engagement, NDAs, Supplier Questionnaires and client contractual requirements.
- Supporting conflicts management resolution and processes and conflicts management enhancement initiatives, including legal technology projects.
- Managing data protection (DSARs, data breach management), cybercrime and working closely with General Counsel and COO (on insurance renewals).
- Firm compliance with Anti-Money Laundering & Counter Terrorist Financing (“AML”) obligations and EU, UK and US Sanctions regimes.
- Supporting the ongoing development and implementation of Know Your Client (KYC), client onboarding and risk management processes. Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and advising stakeholders on their impact on the firm.
- Supporting legal operations, compliance and risk management projects, including process improvement and technology implementation initiatives.
- Liaising with Law Society, LSRA, Department of Justice and other regulatory bodies.
- Deliver associated training with focus on AML, Law Society and LSRA Regulations and other key risk management topics.
The Person
- You are a qualified lawyer or have equivalent demonstrable experience in legal, compliance, risk management, regulatory or governance functions.
- You have a proven track record of advising on commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, risk management, data protection and related legal matters.
- You have in-depth knowledge of EU anti-money laundering Directives and Criminal Justice Acts (Re Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) and experience advising on AML and sanctions ( MLRO / Deputy MLRO / COLP(UK) experience would be desirable).
- Experience in, conflicts, client onboarding or broader regulatory compliance matters would be advantageous.
- Experience gained within a leading law firm, professional services organisation or in-house legal environment and legal operations projects, including playbooks, templates and automation, is desirable.
- You have a high level of technical expertise and superior drafting skills and experience in delivery of high-quality training to internal and external audiences.
- You are client (William Fry) focused and committed to consistently delivering excellent work product. You are collaborative and can manage a diverse workload and deliver timely and commercially focused advice to stakeholders in the firm with minimal supervision.
- You are willing to lead and develop junior lawyers and legal executives and trainees.
- You are hardworking and resilient.
- You will thrive in a busy and expanding unit where you will have the opportunity to take a leading role.
- Familiarity with iManage, InTapp, 3E, Worldcheck and professional services firm software offerngs.
